Day 1Pickup from Lucknow and drive to Nepalgunj. Overnight at Nepalgunj

12 :00 Noon : Pick from Lucknow airport/railway station and drive to Nepalgunj (182 km/5 hrs). Transfer to a Hotel in Nepalgunj. A short group briefing about Kailash Mansarovar Yatra before dinner.

Meal: Dinner at Nepalgunj Hotel

Day 2Fly Nepalgunj – Simikot (2900m). Overnight in Simikot

Early Morning: Flight from Nepalgunj to Simikot (1hr). Rest day at Simikot.

Meal: Breakfast at Nepalgunj, Lunch and Dinner at Simikot

Hotel: New Potala palace Hotel or Similar

Day 3Heli to Hilsa (3700m) & Drive to Taklakot (3900m). Overnight in Taklakot

Morning: Take Helicopter ride to Hilsa (20 min – 12kg weight limit) & wait for other members to arrive at Hilsa (since it is a group visa and everyone have to enter Tibet side in one group)

Afternoon: From Hilsa drive to Purang border, complete immigration & customs formalities in Nepal & Tibet side and drive to Taklakot (27 km). (On the way we have to pass upto 3 Checkpoints where checking might take up to 1 hr in each post)

After Breakfast: Drive from Taklakot to Mansarovar Lake (95 km). On the way you will pass the first checkpoint. Then after driving 70 kms from Taklakot we will reach Rakshas Tal. On the right of Rakshas Tal you will see Gurla Mandhata Parvat & first view of Mount Kailash and Manasarovar lake. Drive from Rakshas Tal to Manasarovar Lake (25 km). Start Parikrama of Manasarovar Lake by vehicle (90 km – 3hr). Perform Puja.

Day 6Drive to Darchen and Yamadwar. First Day of Outer Kora – Trek to Dirapuk (4860m). Overnight in Dirapuk

After Breakfast: Drive to Darchen (35 km – 1 hr) and Tarboche (8 km) and visit the Yama Dwar (Gate of the God of Death Yamaraj). This is the starting point for Parikrama (trekking). We will trek to Dirapuk (4860 m) which is a 12 kms trek (5-6 hrs). You will see the North face of Mt. Kailash. Travelers who do not want to trek around (Parikrama) Kailash can go back to Darchen and wait for the rest of the group to arrive from Parikrama.

Meal: Breakfast at Darchen, Packed Lunch, Dinner.

Hotel: Guesthouse at Dirapuk during Parikrama or Stay in Guest House at Darchen

Day 7Second Day Parikrama. Dirapuk to Zuthulphuk (4670m) via Trek to Dolma La Pass. Overnight in Zuthulphuk

06:00 AM: Start second day trekking from Dirapuk. After 4 hrs trekking we will reach Dolma La Pass. Further down you will be able to see the beautiful Gaurikund (Kunda where Goddess Parvati used to take bath). Descend down to Phedi. At Phedi there is a tea shop where you can take a rest and proceed further to Zuthulphuk. This is the most difficult journey throughout the yatra since you have to trek up to 5700 ft. Total trekking on the second day is 22 km which takes around 9 -10 hours.

Day 8Third Day Parikrama ends and Drive to Hilsa via Taklakot. Overnight in Hilsa or Simikot

08:00AM: We will start the third day of parikrama. After a short Trek (8kms – 2 – 3hrs) parikrama will end and we will reach the point where the coach will be waiting. We will drive to Darchen and merge with other group members who didn’t go to parikrama. From there drive to Hilsa (also we might take helicopter to Simikot based on situation)

Day 9Helicopter ride from Hilsa to Simikot and flight to Nepalgunj & proceed towards Lucknow.

What is the difference between Full Moon and Non - Full Moon Dates ?

The itineraries of Full Moon and Non-Full Moon Dates are the same. If you select Full Moon Departure Dates, the only thing that will be different is that you will be in Lake Mansarovar on Full Moon Night. Nonetheless, it is advised to travel on non-full moon dates as there will be a lot of people in the group during Full Moon dates and it is prone to delays and lodging shortages in Manasarovar and other parts of Tibet, which could lead to a variety of issues during the journey.

What are the items you provide for the trip? Do we need to return it back?

We provide a Waterproof Windcheater Jacket, a Duffel Bag, a Bag Pack, a Cap and a Passport Holder to every member as a souvenir gift from our company. You do not have to return these items.

What kind of fitness is required?

To participate in the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, you must be physically healthy. It is advised that you have a medical examination before deciding to go on this spiritual adventure. However, submitting the medical check-up certificate is not required. Back pain sufferers could experience difficulties on the uneven road. It is highly advised that anyone who has dust allergies or asthma wear a mask when driving on a dusty road. In addition, it is advised to do regular walks, work out, and do yoga to maintain their physical fitness.

Which month is best for Kailash?

Typically, the Kailash Yatra Season lasts from May to September. All of these months are suitable for visiting Kailash; however, the Nepalese monsoon season will have an impact on travel plans in July and August.

At Nepal Side:

What kind of Transportation will be provided during the tour?

At Nepal Side: We will provide transportation by Ac Vehicle for Sightseeing. From Kathmandu to Nepaljung it will be fixed wing – Yeti Air OR Buddha Air flight. From Nepalgunj to Simikot it will be Fixed wing – Twin Otter aircraft OR Dornier flight. From Simikot to Hilsa it will be Helicopter.

At Tibet Side: After crossing the Tibet border it will be an AC vehicle and AC will be operated wherever necessary.

What type of meal will be provided during the tour?

At Kathmandu meals will be provided at the hotel itself. During the tour Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner will be provided by our cook accompanying the group. Meals provided will be pure vegetarian meals without onion and garlic. We also recommend that you bring supplementary food like chocolates, biscuits, nuts, bhujiya, etc to add variations to the meal.

Can we apply for the Chinese Visa from our place?

Special type of group paper visa is required for traveling to Kailash Mansarovar so it cannot be applied at your place. Group paper visas are only issued by the Chinese embassy in Delhi for Indian passport holders and Chinese embassy in Kathmandu for Nepalese and Non – Indian passport holders.

What is the Tibet permit and Chinese Visa obtaining procedure ?

While booking the tour with us we will require your color scanned passport copy. Passport copies are required at least 35 days before the trip date for applying for a Tibet Permit. Passport should be valid at least 06 months before the travel date. We will apply for the permit with the help of a passport copy 01 month before the departure date. We will receive the permit around 10 days before the tour date. After that we will require your original passport.

For Indian Passport holders: You have to send your original passport to our Delhi office minimum 07 working days before the tour date. Saturday and Sunday are considered non-working days.

For Non-Indian Passport holders: We will require your original passport at our Kathmandu office minimum 05 working days before the tour date.Saturday and Sunday are considered non-working days. If the embassy demands, you may have to go to the Chinese embassy in Kathmandu to verify certain details. (Biometrix)

Note: If you already have a normal Chinese Visa stamped on your passport then it has to be canceled first to obtain a group paper visa. Later after returning back from the tour you can reapply for a normal chinese visa.

What is the Tibet permit and Chinese Visa obtaining procedure ?

How much do I have to walk for Parikrama?

Lake Mansarovar Parikrama is done by Vehicle which will take around 2 hrs. For Mt Kailash – Total distance to trek is 42 km.

First Day: Yama dwar to Dirapuk : 12 km

Second Day : Dirapuk to Zuthulphuk: 22 km

Third Day: Zuthulphuk to the ending point:08 km.

Can I hire Pony and Potter for Kailash Parikrama ?

If you cannot perform Mt. Kailash Parikrama by walking then you can hire a pony and porter. It will cost around 4200 Chinese Yuan for hiring a pony and potter and it is directly payable to the Tibet side. This rate may vary during travel time, hence not a fixed rate.Even if you hire a pony you have to walk around 2-3 hrs as pony do not travel downward slope road with weights on their back.

Can pony and porter be hired for one day only?

The costs will remain the same whether you hire it for a single day or for the entire parikrama. Additionally, all payments must be made in advance; cancellations or returns within two days of the scheduled three-day Parikrama are not eligible for refunds.

How can we book Pony and Porter?

For booking Pony and Porter, you will need to coordinate with a guide at Manasarovar before starting Mt Kailash Parikrama. They will have to be informed beforehand so that they can arrange for it and later you will be provided it before starting parikrama on an availability basis.

I don’t want to do the Parikrama. What will be the arrangement ?

If you do not want to do the Parikrama then you can stay at Darchen until the others return back from Parikrama. Our staff will be at Darchen to take care of food and accommodation.

Can I return back earlier by doing parikrama and not waiting for others ?

If pilgrims leave the group early from the Tibet side for non – disease reasons then USD 100 per person per day has to be paid as penalty to the Tibet side – T.A.R. Foreign Exchange Center (FEC). Visa splitting charge, accommodation, transportation charges will be extra. So we recommend staying at Darchen and returning together with the group.

What will be the group size?

Group size will be a minimum of 25 people and maximum size depends on the date. Normally on full moon dates group sizes are bigger.

Can we Choose our own date?

Yes you can choose your own date however for this you should have your own group of minimum 25 person incase of Indian passport holders and minimum 15 person in case of Non – Indian passport holders.

What is the age limit for traveling?

There is not any age limit for Non – Indian passport holders.

For Indian passport holder also age limit has been removed however for Indian passport holders for people 70 and above age below are the requirements:

  • You have to submit a health examination report made within 6 months from travel date by an Indian public hospital above the country level. The content of the report should include the doctor’s judgment and suggestion whether your physical condition is suitable for the plateau area (4000 meters or 13000 ft above sea level).

  • Application by you to express the intention for pilgrimage in Tibet side; the application should be signed and fingerprinted by you and your two direct relatives.

  • The Tibet side will judge whether to allow your entry according to the documents submitted.

  • You should not have high blood pressure, heart disease, asthma and other diseases.

  • At least two of your relatives should accompany you on the tour.

  • Also you have to pay USD 1000 as a risk deposit to T.A.R. Foreign Exchange Center (FEC) which will be returned back after tour completion except, If in case a pilgrim died then the deposit will be charged as liquidated damage by T.A.R. Foreign Exchange Center (FEC).

  • Local medical center of Tibet will make a health examination and give a proposal whether you are suitable for parikrama. If the doctor’s proposal is “not suitable for parikrama” you have to stop the trip.

Is Internet connection available in Tibet?

Wifi connections are available in some places but the connection is very poor. If you want to use the Internet then you can buy a Chinese sim card for 200 Yuan which will include a data package which you can utilize for data.

How to keep in touch with our friends & family during the trip?

Indian and Nepali SIM cards don’t work at the Tibet side but there will be shops at the phone center on the way to Kailash Yatra. You can take your mobile with you and buy a SIM card there to keep in touch with your family and relatives. Costs: Yuan 100 – Only Incoming, Yuan 200: Both incoming and outgoing.

Are priests or Pujari available in Tibet ?

Any priest or Pujari will not be available thus puja needs to be done on your own however since most of the people traveling to Kailash Mansarovar are hindus certainly there will be some priest among the fellow travelers who can help you to perform Puja hawan. We recommend the group members to bring some incense, havan samagri, wood sticks, bilva patra, camphor, gopi chandan, dry fruits (nuts) for Prasad.

Is Indian / US Currency accepted in Nepal or Tibet?

Normally, shops do not accept Indian currencies or any other foreign currencies. Indian currencies are very hard to exchange here in Nepal. USD is accepted in Nepal. Indian / US currency cannot be used in Tibet. You have to exchange it into Chinese Currency to use it during your trip in Tibet.

How much amount to carry during the trip?

We recommend carrying around 2000 Yuans per person during the trip for personal and other expenses. However, if you are planning to take a pony then we recommend to carry around 5500 Chinese Yuan per person

Where can we exchange the Chinese Currency?

We recommend you exchange it at your home place. If you are not able to get it then we can help you to exchange in Kathmandu, however you will have to carry cash for exchange.

Do we need to carry Oxygen Cylinders?

Oxygen cylinders are not allowed to enter from the border. If you want then you can buy a small portable can once you enter Tibet. It will cost you about 30 Yuan per can. Apart from that, we also have big cylinders for emergency purposes.

Do I have to do Insurance for this tour?

Although it is not required, we strongly advise getting insurance because this is a risky trip with a high possibility of delays. Thus, you will be able to file a claim for any damages you may have during the trip with your insurance provider.

How much Luggage can we carry? What about our extra Luggage?

You can bring allowed weight while coming to Kathmandu. At Kathmandu we will provide you with a duffle bag and backpack. You can store your luggage at a hotel in Kathmandu and carry your belongings on the bags which we will provide. We recommend carrying essential items only during the tour. You can carry 12 kg per person.

When shall we book our return tickets?

Kailash Manasarovar Yatra is a very uncertain trip where delays are unpredictable. Due to various issues like natural calamities, permits, visas, etc, trips might get delayed. Due to this reason, it would be better to keep the return dates flexible.

What will happen under Emergency situation?

If you fall sick during the journey, basic first aid and medication will be provided by Kailash Journeys (P) Ltd. We will also provide an oxygen cylinder or oxygen bottle in case of emergency. You will however have to bear additional expenses by yourself. You may have to hire a Jeep to descend down. You will have to bear Hospital, Transportation, Visa splitting and Accommodation expenses if you have to separate yourself from the group since package accommodation and transportation applies only while traveling in a group.

Our Company will not be liable to bear any additional expenses incurred by the customers in case of emergency and rescue (if applicable). Falling sick at high altitude can bring complications and may even lead to death if not treated immediately. The worst case scenario puts us at falling sick during the second day of Parikrama, where we will be trekking above 5000m, and will be farthest from any land routes available. Report immediately to the guide to get help.

What health related issues may arise during the tour ?

You may feel the discomfort and symptoms of altitude sickness (dizziness, headache, nausea, tiredness, insomnia, dyspnea, etc.) when you are traveling across high terrain until your body becomes used to the altitude. This may require a few days or longer, depending on the person. Because of this, we have established a strict timetable that requires you to spend at least one night at every location above 9000 feet before continuing on to greater altitudes.

What is the Highest Altitude during this tour ?

We will travel from 1400 meters to 5700 meters on this trip. The highest point will be Dolma La Pass, which is located at an approximate elevation of 5700 meters on the second day of our Parikrama around Mount Kailash. The starting and finishing points will be in Kathmandu, which is located at 1400 meters. We will spend two days at 3800 meters after entering Tibet to acclimate before climbing to 4400 meters and then 4600 meters around Lake Manasarovar. We will be at over 5,000 meters on the second day of the Parikrama around Kailash. We’ll spend the majority of our stay in Tibet over 4000 meters in height.
